2/9/12 - Yamaha

If there are grammar errors I apologize I wrote this super fast at work. (While reading my morning emails and drinking coffee. That statement alone says how legit this internship is...)

So now that the Super Bowl is over I'm back in the office. The past three days have been incredibly dizzying. The biggest test of working at Yamaha is going to test my time management skills. Currently there are seven or eight projects on my desk. I wasn't given too much direction on which one takes priority I just know that eventually they all have to get done. It's a rather daunting way of looking at work so I wrote each project unto a whiteboard I keep on my desk, the smaller it seems the easier it is for me to tackle.

What I'm going to be doing in the next hour is emailing potential new Yamaha Artists. What happens is if an artist wants to be endorsed through Yamaha they submit a packet with all of their materials it is review (a process that I assume takes a while) and they they are either approved or denied. However, because Artist Relations is all about keeping in constant contact with the Artist so they stay happy my job today is to email each potential artist saying that we've received their packet and it currently in the reviewing stage. I'm hoping to be done with this before lunch because that's when other projects tend to turn up.

Another thing they have me doing is writing artist updates for the monthly report. Basically I read articles and summarize them so that they can be put into magazines, press releases, on the web etc. I write a brief summary which is checked and edited by Jennifer and then sent off to...wherever it goes I'm not sure yet eventually they will tell me. In a nut shell I write a CURRENT EVENT at least three times a day. Yesterday I wrote about Dr. Collier's upcoming performance with the Wind Symphony, naturally when I see names I recognize I get really excited.

Rose you'll like this, they also have me updating their Artist Website (I'm not writing code but if I could I would and that would be cool). I'm compiling biographies, gear lists, high res photos, and links to artists web pages so that their info page is more detailed. My office deals with the Band and Orchestral (this includes Percussion which is broken down into Concert, Marching, Marimba & Vibes, and Timpani) artists as well and Drummers.

For all the Metal guys in the room: The drummers from Exodus and Machine Head. These are cool videos WATCH THESE!!!

I've also had several conversations with John and Chris about having more of a presence on social media platforms such as Facebook and Twitter, and professional music blogs. They asked if I could help out with that, I said yes immediately. I'm trying to find a way to keep track of all the cool things I'm doing but it's so fast paced here I'm getting a little forgetful. I might post a picture or two soon...and I'm about to check my iPhone to see if there's a Blogger App that would help with that. If you could see the places I am I think that would be very cool.
