How I got my internship
First off my internship (proper title) is Promotions assistant at Radio Disney Chicago 1300. My unofficial title is member of the Radio Disney Road Drew and Assistant to the Promotions Manager(sounds like Dwight from the office right?) which I will explain in a bit more detail later.
To attain my internship I did some asking around saying simply " I am looking for an internship and I am interested mostly in marketing/promotions." Luckily Ms. Rose Marshack was able to give me a contact ,Matt Friscia, at Radio Disney. He got me in touch with the right people at the station as far as hiring and interviews. I then simply sent my resume and cover letter in using him as a reference. I set up an interview and it was pretty relaxed. I am not sure if it was luck but I am sure that because the person who interviewed/hired me graduated form ISU and was involved in the same activities as me (UPB:entertainment, and Springfest) helped her understand what kind of experience I had and ultimately helped somewhat in me getting the job.
This position consists of being a member of the Radio Disney Road Crew which entails: going out to various Chicagoland locations i.e. Meijer in Oswego and operating like most other radio stations do in public appearances. We play music, give out prizes every 13 minuets, play games with the kids, as well as dance with and for them i.e cha cha slide and Disney movie dances such as High School Musical.
After attaining this position another job opened up that included planning and preparing for the events in the office. I applied and interviewed for the job. There was a full year positions as well as a Summer position available. Both positions went to people who were available for the whole year. However, I believe this to be an advantage. I am to be called into the office on an as needed basis and I help the person who hired me. She is the promotions manager at the station which means I will be helping her book and market events as well as meet and greets with various Disney Channel stars. My favorite part about the job is that I will get paid to bring contest winners to meet the Jonas Brothers as well as get to meet them too.
This blog is a little belated and my first day was actually today (Sat. May 17th) but I will put that experience in another blog.
