Noble Fool Theatricals, St. Charles, IL

Hey Kids,

I'm really excited to get started with my internship at the Pheasant Run Resort in St. Charles, IL (subarb of Chicago). I found the posting on one of the Music Business internships sites...one of the two that David had mentioned, but I don't remember exactly which one. The company is Noble Fool Theatricals, and they conduct all of the musical theater entertainment at the resort. They perform shows that include local students, and they also hire professional performers for more upscale productions. I will be involved with the marketing of their upcoming performances.

I agree that it is crucial to come off in the most professional manner, and to be personable. Don't leave anything out of your resume, but also be able to explain and embellish factors that are in the resume. For example, NFT initially emailed me because they saw that I used to teach private voice and piano lessons. They thought I would fit well with hosting rehearsals for the students. This was an opportunity for me to express my interest in being more involved with marketing. While the opportunities to find an internship that suits your needs can be challenging, and limited, no one should settle for something that they won't benefit from personally just to receive credit for school. Luckily, they took a second look at my resume and noticed that I conducted the marketing process for a gig at the Penny Road Pub.

Going back a minute, before a company contacts you, make sure you follow-up. Since there is an abundance of students looking for internships, it is likely that companies receive several resumes and cover letters to consider. It may help to expedite the viewing of your own resume, if you call them, or email them inquiring about the status, and expressing again, your interest in working with them.

I had a great interview with Audra Sybert, -be friendly, open, and use positive eye contact. Be on time, and be yourself! I feel really comfortable about my decision to work there because it seems like a positive atmosphere. I felt pretty well prepared with the information I have received so far from Rose and Pete Guither. We'll see how the summer goes.

Good luck to everyone else!
Jessica F.
